Local man Garrett Benton has officially spent half of his annual salary paying other people to do the manly things he wishes he could do himself.

"There's an actual dollar amount that expresses what a lousy excuse for a man I am," said Mr. Benton, looking at his bank statement. "And it's a huge number. I'm literally paying to be utterly emasculated. The shame!"

According to his wife, Mr. Benton's descent into embarrassing weakness first began with paying to have someone else mow the lawn. "He gave some excuse about the dollar amount he could make at work versus what it cost to have the grass cut, but all I know is that's when I stopped respecting him as a man," said Mrs. Benton. "It just snowballed from there. He pays for oil changes, landscaping, fixing doorknobs, and even money management. It's humiliating."

Though currently unable to look at himself in the mirror, Mr. Benton states he is on the road to redemption. "The other day, I replaced the staples in the stapler instead of buying a new one - and it was so empowering!" said Mr. Benton. "One day, I'd just like to be able to make eye contact again with my father-in-law. I haven't looked directly at his face since the day I called him to chase a mouse out of the garage. It's been a long seven years."

At publishing time, Mr. Benton had regained a small modicum of manliness after burning the crap out of a steak instead of having a steakhouse cook it for him.

Liberty or Immigration by http://younggospelminister.blogspot.com/

Machiavelli is most famous for his book The Prince, which I must admit I have not read yet. But his book Discourses on Livy is an incredibly insightful work. I am only reading it a bit at a time, as I am reading a few things at the moment, but what I have already read is fascinating, insightful and incredibly wise.

For instance, Machiavelli observes in Discourses that Sparta was able to obtain and then maintain its liberty for centuries, eight centuries in fact, without any serious disturbances. [i] This is a remarkable achievement, and something that modern nations like the United States and Australia are already displaying that they cannot sustain, because, especially in regards to the United States, no one can say that they have maintained their liberty for centuries without disturbance. Most astute observers would note that the US Republic ended in all but name when the Northern States conquered the Confederate states in the late 1800's. And Australia reverted to a prison colony because of fears about a virus. Whereas Sparta was able to maintain its liberty for eight hundred years, without a similar disturbance.

How were they able to maintain this liberty for such an extended period? Well he explains, in large part, it was because they heavily restricted immigration:

“Sparta, as I have said, being governed by a king and a limited senate, could maintain itself also for a long time, because there were but few inhabitants, and strangers were not permitted to come in; besides, the laws of Lycurgus had obtained such influence that their observance prevented even the slightest pretext for trouble. It was also the easier for the citizens to live in union, as Lycurgus had established equality in fortunes and inequality in conditions; for an equal poverty prevailed there, and the people were the less ambitious, as the offices of the government were given but to a few citizens, the people being excluded from them; and the nobles in the exercise of their functions did not treat the people sufficiently ill to excite in them the desire of exercising them themselves. This last advantage was due to the kings of Sparta; for being placed in this government, as it were, between two orders, and living in the midst of the nobility, they had not better means of maintaining their authority than to protect the people against all injustice; when these neither feared nor desired authority, and consequently there was no motive for any difference between them and the noble, nor any cause for disturbances between them and the nobles, nor any cause for disturbances’ and this they could live for a long time united. Two principle causes, however, cemented this union: first, the inhabitants of Sparta, were few in number, and therefore could be governed by a few; and the other was, that, by not permitting strangers to establish themselves in the republic, they had neither opportunity of becoming corrupt, nor of increasing their population to such a degree that the burden of government became difficult to the few who were charged with it.”[ii]

By maintaining their original population, their historical laws, and by not allowing strangers or foreigners (which includes other Greeks in this context) a foothold they were able to maintain a stable Spartan society for centuries. Spartans ruled Spartans, and because they had commonly agreed laws and customs, this rule was not resented.

Indeed, Machiavelli notes the Spartan kings ensured their position, by defending their people: "This last advantage was due to the kings of Sparta; for being placed in this government, as it were, between two orders, and living in the midst of the nobility, they had not better means of maintaining their authority than to protect the people against all injustice..." Despite popular assumptions to the contrary, there is a common trend in history of kings being the champions of their people. The Spartan kings are another example of that.

Machiavelli notes that the modern (in his day in the 15th century) state of Venice achieved the same kind of stability by granting all of its citizens who were there at its founding the right to participate in government, and by denying this right to foreigners coming in.[iii] This protected it from foreign interference which could twist the government to foreign purposes and against the will of the Venetians, at least in this era.

This is an incredibly wise rule, and is consistent with the biblical proscription on allowing foreigners to rule over your nation (Deut. 17:15). It is also consistent with the Biblical laws that forbid recent immigrants from having full rights of citizenship and immigrants from certain places from ever having them (Deut 23:3-8). The Spartans, Venetians, Machiavelli and the Bible all recognised how allowing foreign leadership in your nation undermines its liberty and identity, and made laws to forbid it.

It must be noted that in this chapter Machiavelli notes that Rome both allowed strangers to come in, and to have political power, over time, and this helped Rome burn brighter than either of these other republics. However, this also ensured that Rome would eventually be lost because foreign immigration, rulership, and influence meant that Rome turned into something that was not Roman in any meaningful definition of the term. Indeed, historians call the later stages of the Roman Empire Byzantium and hardly consider it to be Rome, though the Byzantines referred to themselves as Roman, and traced their authority back to Rome's legacy.

This being said, history and wise historians have noted that immigration is the death of both liberty and stability. First and foremost, because a people ruled by foreigners is not free, secondly, because foreigners bring their culture and ethnic habits with them, and thirdly, because many people who come from societies which are in many ways more backward than the one they emigrate to still think of their ancestral ways of doing things as superior and begin to agitate for change.

If immigrants become numerous these clamourings will become loud and create divisions in your society. If they gain political power they will begin to make changes in keeping with their ancestoral philosophies and as this increases so will divisions and disturbances increase. We see this occuring across the immigration addicted Western world today, particularly in the US, but also in other Anglo-Saxon nations.

In fact, the thought provoking show, Yellowstone, weaves this theme into its story line from the perspective of both Native Americans and European Americans in Montana. Both want to live under the rulership of their own people and traditions.

You may not like hearing this observation from Machiavelli, but history, reason and the current trajectories of increasingly diverse western nations away from liberty and towards totalitarianism prove his observation indisputable.

You must choose: immigration or liberty, you can't have both.

Thanks To Biden’s Border Crisis, The Million-Dollar Migrant Smuggling Industry Is Now Worth Billions by Jordan Boyd

While President Joe Biden “scrambles” to address Ukraine’s border war with Russia, the U.S. border sits vulnerable to a host of criminal activity that is quickly seeping into all 50 states.

That’s problematic because in just a year and a half, Biden’s border crisis has made it increasingly easier for transnational criminal organizations raking in hundreds of millions of dollars each year smuggling migrants across the U.S.-Mexico border to become even more profitable and powerful.

The Department of Homeland Security bragged last week that there has been a “500% increase in human smuggling disruption activity compared to similar past operations” and that it has “recently surpassed 5,000 smuggler arrests.” However, those figures are but a small dent in the actual number of smugglers who have successfully escorted hundreds of thousands of illegal border crossers into the U.S. each month since Biden’s inauguration.

In May of 2018, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen told the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee that human smuggling operations are making “$500 million a year, or more.”

“To be clear, human smuggling operations are lining the pockets of transnational criminal organizations (TCOs). They are not humanitarian endeavors. Smugglers’ priorities have profits over people, and when aliens pay them to get here, they are contributing $500 million a year, or more, to groups that are fueling greater violence and instability in America and the region,” she warned.

More than four years later, the criminal enterprises responsible for scoping out border weaknesses and using those to funnel more than 2 million illegal border crossers into the U.S. in just 12 short months are now raking in an estimated $13 billion per year.

That means that the same cartels and criminal rings responsible for increasing corruption in Mexico now control a multibillion-dollar operation that has the funds, experience, and lack of accountability from the federal government to sustain their deadly smuggling industry for decades to come.

In recent weeks, Vice President Kamala Harris and top U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials have tried to shift the blame for this influx of migrants on Republican governors who have made a spectacle of shipping migrants to blue strongholds across the country.

But the border crisis was a disaster long before migrants arrived in Martha’s Vineyard and at Harris’s residence. It was Biden’s undoing of Trump-era border security that prompted Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to take that kind of drastic action in the first place.

Biden unleashed the floodgates of illegal immigration and all of the other criminal activity that accompanies it when he eradicated key border security measures such as the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which required asylum-seekers to await court decisions in Mexico, and Title 42, a policy designed to expedite the expulsion of illegal border crossers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

His weak border rhetoric on the campaign trail and from behind the presidential seal encouraged migrants to begin their perilous journeys to the U.S. and to enter illegally — a fact that even illegal border crossers aren’t scared to admit.

As a result, the border has become a hub not only for human smuggling but also for the smuggling of illicit and deadly drugs such as fentanyl, which is the main culprit of the nation’s current overdose epidemic. Even people who are not connected to criminal rings have begun stashing illegal abortion pills from Mexico in their luggage to send to American women and middle-school girls in pro-life states because they know they can get away with it.

Considering most Americans trust Republicans more than Democrats to handle immigration and border security issues, it’s no surprise that red candidates in key midterm races are calling for solutions that Democrats in the White House and Congress are unwilling to face. Whether Republicans will be successful in their attempts to curb the border “terrorists” is yet to be determined, but one thing is clear: Regardless of the GOP’s future attempts to fix the crisis, Biden’s enabling of the disaster has only been good business for smugglers who seek to profit handsomely from the exploitation of migrants.

Vote Like Your Life Depends on It - Because it Does! by Brian C. Joondeph

This is it, the “most important election of our lifetime,” which is how most national elections are described. But this year’s Congressional midterm elections may be just that important. Much rides on which party controls Congress, state legislatures, and many state governorships in terms of the country’s direction and what everyday life looks like for Americans over the remainder of the decade and beyond.

President Barack Obama described the original plan as “the fundamental transformation of America.” It was supposed to be eight years of Obama followed by eight more years of a President Hillary Clinton, to complete the “great reset” from freedom, liberty, and prosperity for much of the Western world, to a top-down command and control society, more in line with a George Orwell novel than the vision of America’s founding fathers.

Will it be a red wave, a blue wave, or a purple trickle? I already made my case predicting a red wave, but given the propensity for Democrat electoral shenanigans, Republicans and conservatives (not necessarily the same group) need to vote like their lives and well-being depend on it because they certainly do. Libertarians too.

Hugh Hewitt summed it up in the title of his 2012 book, “If It’s Not Close, They Can’t Cheat: Crushing The Democrats In Every Election And Why Your Life Depends On It.” President Biden hinted at such cheating in recent remarks at the Columbus Club in Washington, DC.

We know that many states don’t start counting those ballots until after the polls close on November 8. That means in some cases we won’t know the winner of the election until a few days after the election. It takes time to count all legitimate ballots in a legal and orderly manner. Huh?

Days to count ballots? Since when? Since any close election where the Republican candidate is ahead, beginning with Bush v Gore in Florida in 2000 to Trump v Biden in 2020. The Mega Millions lottery can identify the winner almost immediately and know where in America he purchased the winning ticket. Most countries, including a previously more honest America, know the election winner hours after the polls close.

Biden’s comment about “a few days” suggests that once the votes are counted the first time, if the Republican candidate is the winner, counting stops until additional votes can be found or manufactured, enough to put the Democrat over the top. This is why voting is so important and that every vote counts to so overwhelm the tally that cheating is impossible, as Hugh Hewitt described.

What’s in store for the country if Democrats control Congress and, in essence, all three branches of government? Yes, the US Supreme Court is supposed to be independent, but even the high court can be pressured and politicized. Court decisions are often ignored, as in New York City Mayor Eric Adams having no interest in following the ruling of a NY Supreme Court justice requiring reinstatement of municipal employees fired for not taking the COVID vaccine.

So how do your country and life depend on the November 8 election outcome? What would Democrat majorities in Congress mean for America? All tricks and no treats.

Abortion on demand, up to and perhaps even beyond birth, would be codified into national law. Democrats had 50 years post-Roe v Wade to legalize abortion legislatively, many of those years when Democrats controlled Congress and the White House, but they didn’t. After the recent SCOTUS decision repealing Roe, turning the decision over to the states as prescribed by the Tenth Amendment, expect a donkey Congress to legalize killing babies.

Censorship is the new norm, with unelected and unaccountable social media behemoths determining “truth” and acceptable conversation. Asking questions of or disagreeing with those in charge leads to censorship or worse. Noted cardiologist Dr. Peter McCullough and Dr. Sherri Tenpenny may lose their medical licenses and board certifications over having the temerity to challenge Dr. Fauci, and the three-letter medical agencies, just as Galileo was imprisoned for questioning the leading scientists of the day over the earth-revolving around the sun rather than vice versa.

Taxes will rise under a Democrat Congress. The government is spending money it does not have, now financing a $31 trillion national debt at an interest rate of 4 percent and rising. This translates to $1.4 trillion in annual interest payments on the debt, consuming 29 percent of federal tax receipts according to Zero Hedge. Given that Fed Chairman Jerome Powell suggested additional interest rate hikes to combat inflation, expect debt service to grow, leaving little money for other government spending priorities, with tax hikes as the only solution for Democrats to make ends meet.

Fentanyl is now the leading cause of death for US adults. Democrat open borders and sanctuary city policies are supporting the Fentanyl supply chain, while other Democrat policies are choking the supply chain for the essential and non-lethal goods and services that Americans depend on.

Speaking of the border, expect Democrats to leave the border wide open, flooding America with low-skilled migrants, unable to assimilate into American culture, bringing criminal activity and economic dependence, all of which will be supported by already overtaxed American citizens.

From Trump era energy independence, when America was a net energy exporter, to the Democrat President begging the Saudis for more oil and depleting our strategic petroleum reserves, expect this trend to continue spiraling downward. Remember gasoline under $2 a gallon during a Republican administration to a doubling of gasoline prices under the current Democrat cabal? With a deliberate effort to reduce energy supplies, expect energy prices to continue rising while Biden licks his ice cream cones “like a boss” according to ABC News.

What’s the Democrat solution to unaffordable gasoline? Electric vehicles, as if electricity and EV batteries magically grow on trees. California can’t keep its lights on, but the state has mandated 100 percent new EV sales by 2035. But don’t worry if the lights go out. President Biden claims that EVs can light your homes. Aside from such a practice voiding a Tesla warranty, how will you recharge your batteries during a brownout? How will you drive to work with a dead EV battery? This is what passes for Democrat leadership these days.

Democrats have no solution for inflation, other than calling it “transitory.” Or there’s Biden’s recent proposal of windfall profit taxes on oil companies, a tactic that has been tried and was an abject failure. Democrats in charge going forward means higher prices for virtually everything.

But rest assured, government tax revenues, when not supporting interest payments on the national debt, will be sent to Ukraine to finance a proxy war against Russia, an endeavor for which America has no compelling national interest, and that could possibly escalate into a nuclear holocaust that, by comparison, would make the COVID pandemic look like a day at the beach.

Don’t forget the children. Democrats want unnecessary COVID vaccines for your children. Drag queen story hour and encouraging gender confusion, followed by surgical castration, are Democrat priorities and likely to be codified into law if Democrats control Congress.

Lastly, Democrats want to defund the police, leading to increased crime and violence. How ironic that the husband of the US Speaker of the House, herself calling for police defunding, was “allegedly” violently attacked (the emerging details are becoming dodgier by the day) in his own home. With an election ahead, Democrats deny their calls for defunding the police, but here is a 7 minute video of them advocating for that from which they now run: https://gop.com/video/7-minutes-of-democrats-saying-defund-the-police/

Democrats will turn America into, at best, a socialist state and, at worst, a communist dictatorship with a handful of them in charge, much like the capital city in the Hunger Games.

Electoral reform is happening, but will it be enough to ensure a fair and honest election? Election reform advocate and attorney Lin Wood cries, “Fix 2020 or bust.” Does this mean we shouldn’t vote as elections are still sketchy but likely better than in 2020? Or because every GOP candidate is not the perfect solution to our current problems? How can we fix anything without electing leaders who acknowledge the problem and have the cojones to actually fix the broken and fraudulent electoral system?

Perfect is the enemy of good, and that applies to candidates as well. An imperfect Republican official will do far less damage than any Democrat and may even do some good. Leave principles and convictions in the chatrooms and think tanks.

Voting libertarian out of conviction will only split the Republican vote and likely elect the Democrat candidate. This election is a call for action, or else there may be nothing of America left to salvage after two more years of Biden, Pelosi, and Schumer in charge. Vote Republican or get the government and country you deserve.

On election day, vote like your country and life depend on it because they do! America needs and deserves better than the modern Democrat party.

The military’s recruiting woes aren’t just impacting the active-duty services. Gary Strode, 9, decided to dress as an Army recruiter this year for Halloween and missed his candy goal by a shocking 20 percent.

“For years I was the star candy-getter,” said pretend Army Staff Sgt. Strode. “You could count on me to bring in way more Milky Ways, Reese’s Cups, and M&M’s than anyone else on the block. But this year, I barely brought in enough Skittles to meet my parents’ candy retention goals.”

“I hear even Beverley missed her goal by 10%, and she’s dressed as an Air Force recruiter,” he added.

According to sources, while many adults in the neighborhood admired Strode’s costume, their support fell short when it came to providing quality treats. For make-believe Staff Sgt. Strode, the night was one big trick.

“Everywhere I went, it seemed like people didn’t want to give me candy,” said an exhausted Strode. “Some wouldn’t even answer the door when I rang the doorbell, but I knew they were there.”

Making matters worse, even though the candy supply was surprisingly sparse, many of the other children still fared better.

“Even Bobby got more candy, and he dressed as a mailman,” exclaimed the befuddled recruiter. “I tried everything. Whenever someone said they were out of candy, I’d ask if they knew anyone nearby who’d be interested in giving me some. Most of the time, they’d just shut the door in my face.”

Even to achieve the 80 percent part of his goal, Strode had to accept a lot of lower-quality candy than he wouldn’t have accepted just two years ago.

“I’m eating those little packs of raisins this year, and candy corn,” grimaced Strode. “I can’t believe I have to take those things.”

“It is a difficult time for Halloween military personnel,” said Dr. Janelle Frankenberry, a researcher with the RAND Corporation who tracks military-related candy issues. “Supply chain problems have put a lot of power into the hands of all trick-or-treaters, and there’s a massive amount of competition for candy that makes military-related costumes far less appealing than they were just a few years ago.”

Some neighbors confirmed that they were reluctant to give the young boy candy.

Leona Hedges, who lives on the same block as Strode, said there were just better costumes out there.

“Military costumes used to be so popular. But I saw lots of adorable X-Men and Avengers before little [Staff Sgt.] Gary came around. Oh! And he was here with a six-year-old Black Adam! I just had to give my last full-sized Snickers to him. That left a small box of Milk Duds and a butterscotch hard candy for Gary.”

“Frankly, I know his parents voted for Biden,” said Thomas Greene, who lives in a cul-de-sac close to the Strode home. “I normally support the kids in the neighborhood with lots of Halloween treats, but I don’t think anyone should give candy to someone with woke parents like that.”

It wasn’t just the politically conservative neighbors who made the evening’s exercise so frustrating.

“The worst was when that hippy woman looked at me like she was mad,” recounted Strode. “She threw some of those gross orange Circus Peanuts into my bag and said we should have never invaded Iraq. I just recruit the candy, lady.”

Since ancient times, the great civilizations have been divided into two distinct categories, land powers and sea powers. The best example is the rivalry between Athens and Sparta that culminated in the Peloponnesian wars. The Peloponnesian League was led by Sparta, the dominant land power. The Delian League was led by Athens, the dominant sea power. The great ancient conflict still casts a shadow over the West because the dynamic is still with us.

To be a great sea power requires different human capital than what is required of a land power, which makes them cultural opposites. As a result, they look at war differently and they fight their wars for different reasons. Sea powers tend to be driven by profit while land powers tend to be driven by cultural forces. Culture and economics play a role for both, but the priorities tend to be reversed. The sea power is moved to act by money while the land power is moved by cultural issues.

The Athenians were arguably the first financial empire. They built their power through shrewd business relations with the other city-states. The alliances that were established to fight the Persians quickly became a business for Athens. They provided security while their “allies” provided money and men for the ships. Their aggression toward the other city-states was driven by opportunities for trade and profit. The Athenian empire was as much about business as Athenian culture.

The Spartans, on the other hand, were not driven by profit. Their willingness to join the rest of Greece against the Persians was purely in defense. When the Athenians wanted to take the fight to the Persians after the Greeks had successfully driven the Persians back across the sea, the Spartans were not interested. Their eventual war with the Athenians was purely defensive from their point of view. It is probably why they chose not to obliterate Athens after they won the war.

We see the same dynamic today. The Global American Empire is the new Delian League, spreading democracy to the world at gun point. The Russian Federation is the new Peloponnesian League. The Cold War was often cast the same way, but it did not work as an analogy. The communists were just as obsessed with spreading their form of utopian politics as the West. This time it works as the Russians are at war with an ideological and financial empire.

The clash of cultures is clear. The Great American Empire just assumed the Russians would do what the GAE always does in war, which is systematically destroy the civilization of the opposing culture with air power. The West is still puzzled as to why the Russians never unleashed shock and awe at the start of the war. Further, the West concluded that the incremental approach was due to a lack of resources. The GAE is a sea power so it thinks like a sea power and fights like one as well.

The Russian Federation is a land power, so putting on a big symbolic light show to start a war makes no sense to them. Sea powers move like the sea, while land powers move like the land, slowly and incrementally. This is why the Russians had not bothered to put together a public relations campaign for the West. They saw no point in it as their purpose was to force the Ukrainians to submit. That happens at the bargaining table and on the battlefield, not on Twitter.

Another contrast in the two sides is in the weapons. The Russian have the best air defenses in the world. They have the best artillery in the world. The GAE has the best air force in the world and the best navy in the world. This contrast is due to the assumptions of both sides. The Russians assume their great wars will be defensive while the GAE assumes its great wars will be offensive. The two contrasting worldviews results in two entirely different military postures.

This contrast in warfighting is turning up in the weapons. Land powers assume long wars of attrition so they plan accordingly. That means squeezing the maximum from the resources available. The Russians are famous for making cheap, reliable weapons that can be used by anyone. The Kalashnikov is the prime example. The new drones the Russians are now using follow the same pattern. They are cheap, easy to operate and extremely effective against enemy targets.

Sea powers have to assume short wars. You can only keep a fleet at sea for so long so you have to inflict maximum damage up front. A naval battle is not going to last months like a land battle, so you need to prepare for the short haul. In the old days, ships were expensive, complex weapons. Today, the jet fighter is the cutting edge of technology and human organization. All of America’s best weapons are complex systems that require lots of training to utilize.

The flip side of the time preference aspect is that sea powers can take a loss and bounce back quickly, while land powers take time to recover. The GAE suffered a humiliating defeat in Afghanistan, but quickly shook it off. The loss in Vietnam stung for a few years, but then the war machine was back in business. In contrast, the Russians needed decades to overcome the failure in Afghanistan. It has only been in the last decade that they have moved past it.

What that means for the Ukraine is that barring a collapse of the EU or the global financial system, the GAE will shake of this failure too. Whatever is left of Ukraine will be ignored and the GAE will turn its sights to some new opponent. Land powers must always be on defense, because it is their nature. Sea power must always be on offense, because it is their nature. That means when one war ends a new war must start, regardless of how the prior war ended.

The Thinnest Veneer of Civilization by Victor Davis Hanson

Civilization is fragile. It hinges on ensuring the stuff of life.

To be able to eat, to move about, to have shelter, to be free from state or tribal coercion, to be secure abroad, and safe at home—only that allows cultures to be freed from the daily drudgery of mere survival.

Civilization alone permits humans to pursue sophisticated scientific research, the arts, and the finer aspects of culture.

So, the great achievement of Western civilization—consensual government, individual freedom, rationalism in partnership with religious belief, free market economics, and constant self-critique and audit—was to liberate people from daily worry over state violence, random crime, famine, and an often-unforgiving nature.

But so often the resulting leisure and affluence instead deluded arrogant Western societies into thinking that modern man no longer needed to worry about the fruits of civilization he took to be his elemental birthright.

As a result, the once prosperous Greek city-state, Roman Empire, Renaissance republics, and European democracies of the 1930s imploded—as civilization went headlong in reverse.

We in the modern Western world are now facing just such a crisis.

We talk grandly about the globalized Great Reset. We blindly accept the faddish New Green Deal. We virtue signal about defunding the police. We merely shrug at open borders. And we brag about banning fertilizers and pesticides, outlawing the internal combustion engine, and discounting Armageddon in the nuclear age—as if on autopilot we have already reached utopia.

But meanwhile Westerners are systematically destroying the very elements of our civilization that permitted such fantasies in the first place.

Take fuel. Europeans arrogantly lectured the world that they no longer need traditional fuels. So, they shut down nuclear power plants. They stopped drilling for oil and gas. And they banned coal.

What followed was a dystopian nightmare. Europeans will burn dirty wood this winter as their civilization reverts from postmodern abundance to premodern survival.

The Biden administration ossified oil fields. It canceled new federal oil and gas leases. It stopped pipeline construction and hectored investors to shun fossil fuels.

When scarcity naturally followed, fuel prices soared.

The middle class has now mortgaged its upward mobility to ensure that it might afford gasoline, heating oil, and skyrocketing electricity.

The duty of the Pentagon is to keep America safe by deterring enemies, reassuring allies, and winning over neutrals.

It is not to hector soldiers based on their race. It is not to indoctrinate recruits in the woke agenda. It is not to become a partisan political force.

The result of those suicidal Pentagon detours is the fiasco in Afghanistan, the aggression of Vladimir Putin’s Russia, the new bellicosity of China, and the loud threats of rogue regimes like Iran.

At home, the Biden administration inexplicably destroyed the southern border, as if civilized nations of the past never needed such boundaries.

Utter chaos followed. Three million migrants have poured into the United States. While some cross over clandestinely, others clear border stations without an adequate audit, and largely without skills, high school diplomas, or capital.

The streets of our cities are anarchical—and by intent.

Defunding the police, emptying the jails, and destroying the criminal justice system unleashed a wave of criminals. It is now open season on the weak and innocent.

America is racing backward into the 19th-century Wild West. Predators maim, kill, and rob with impunity. Felons correctly conclude that bankrupt postmodern “critical legal theory” will ensure them exemption from punishment.

Few Americans know anything about agriculture, except to expect limitless supplies of inexpensive, safe, and nutritious food at their beck and call.

But that entitlement for 330 million hungry mouths requires massive water projects, and new dams and reservoirs. Farmers rely on steady supplies of fertilizer, fuels, and chemicals. Take away that support—as green nihilists are attempting—and millions will soon go hungry, as they have since the dawn of civilization.

Perhaps nearly a million homeless now live on the streets of America. Our major cities have turned medieval with their open sewers, garbage-strewn sidewalks, and violent vagrants.

So, we are in a great experiment in which regressive progressivism discounts all the institutions, and the methodologies of the past that have guaranteed a safe, affluent, well-fed, and sheltered America.

Instead, we arrogantly are reverting to a new feudalism as the wealthy elite—terrified of what they have wrought—selfishly retreat to their private keeps.

But the rest who suffer the consequences of elite flirtations with nihilism cannot even afford food, shelter, and fuel. And they now feel unsafe, both as individuals and as Americans.

As we suffer self-inflicted mass looting, random street violence, hyperinflation, a nonexistent border, unaffordable fuel, and a collapsing military, Americans will come to appreciate just how thin is the veneer of their civilization.

When stripped away, we are relearning that what lies just beneath is utterly terrifying.
